There’s a certain magic in the final stages of a project—the moment when a vision of wood, glass and fire finally begins to feel like a home.

After months of sawdust and secrets, we are thrilled to give you a first look at The Barn, the new flagship accommodation at The Roost Retreats. Designed as the ultimate high-end escape for two, The Barn isn’t just a place to sleep—it’s a masterclass in relaxation and “slow living.”

The “Stay-In” Essentials
We designed The Barn so that if you never wanted to leave, you’d have the time of your life.

The Heart of the Home: A sprawling, open-plan kitchen, diner, and living space featuring a stunning double-aspect woodburner—perfect for fireside dining and cosy nights on the sofa.
The Ultimate Cook’s Kitchen: A chef’s dream space with a full-sized fridge-freezer, full sized induction hob, oven and microwave

The Private Spa: We’ve brought the wellness retreat to you with a private indoor infrared sauna for two and a luxury king-size bed paired with an ensuite rainforest shower.

- The Cinema Room: Forget standard TV. Settle into our dedicated cinema room with ATMOS surround sound and Netflix.

Alfresco Living (The Roost Way)
Step outside into your private gravel garden and deck, where the indulgence continues under the stars. We’ve added a Japanese soak tub nestled under a gazebo, an outdoor shower for the brave, and a pizza oven for your bistro-style dinners.

Out & About: Your Forest of Dean Adventure
While The Barn is a sanctuary, the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley are too good to ignore. If you do decide to lace up your boots, here is how to spend a perfect weekend:
- For the Foodies: Wander down to Harts Barn Cookery School right here in Mitcheldean, or book a table at the award-winning Tudor Farmhouse in Clearwell for a romantic, locally-sourced dinner. For world-class seafood to bring back to your chef’s kitchen, a stop at the Severn & Wye Smokery is a must.
- For the Explorers: Get lost (in the best way) in the ancient woodland of Puzzlewood, famously the inspiration for Middle Earth, or take in the iconic views at Symonds Yat Rock.
- For the Slow-Livers: Hire a canoe for a gentle glide down the River Wye, or follow the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail at Beechenhurst, where art meets the forest floor.
Be the First to Know
The Barn will be ready to welcome its first guests in just a few weeks. Our availability calendar is launching shortly, and as always, our email subscribers will get the very first pick of dates.
