Staying at The Roost
Is the site completely adults-only? Yes. The entire estate is strictly restricted to adults over 18 to preserve a quiet, restorative environment.
What are the check-in and check-out times? Check-in is from 3:30 PM onwards. Check-out is by 10:00 AM on your day of departure.
What is the latest arrival time? All guests must arrive by 9:00 PM all year round due to limited external lighting protecting our Special Area of Conservation.
Can I extend my stay? Yes. You can add a Sunday night extension to your weekend booking for a slow Monday morning check-out.
Do the retreats have televisions? Yes. Every single retreat features a television equipped with Netflix and full on-demand streaming services so you can unwind with your favorite shows.
Dog Policies & Rules
How many dogs can I bring? Each of our 5 retreats welcomes 1 medium-sized dog or up to 2 small dogs.
Are there extra dog fees? Yes. There is a single stay charge of £30 for one dog or £40 for two small dogs.
Are the gardens secure? Yes. Every cabin and cottage has a private garden or terrace surrounded in secure fencing & willow hurdles.
What is provided for dogs? A comfy dog bed, luxury bedding, throws, towels, fresh bowls, complimentary biscuits, and poo bags.
Are dogs allowed on the furniture and bedding? Yes, dogs are welcome on the furniture and bedding, but we kindly ask that you use the protective blankets and throws provided for them.
When do dogs need to be kept on a lead? Dogs can be off-lead inside your retreat’s private enclosed garden. However, when walking outside of your specific garden into the wider retreat fields or general site grounds, dogs must be kept on a lead and under control at all times due to grazing sheep.
Can dogs be left alone in the retreats? No. We ask that you do not leave your dog entirely unattended in the retreats.
How do I clean my muddy dog? Please use the dedicated outdoor warm dog shower at the front of the site barn.
The Wild Swimming Pool
Is the pool heated? No. It is 100% unheated rainwater mirroring the natural climate—it functions as an intense cold plunge in autumn and winter.
Is the pool available to all the retreats? Yes, the pool is available to guests staying across all five retreats on the property
Can I dive or jump in? No diving or jumping. The central swimming lane has a constant uniform depth of 5 feet.
Do I have to book? Yes. All slots must be reserved via your digital Guest Book, each retreat can book up to two 45-minute sessions daily. This guarantees the pool is completely private to you during your slot.
Why do I have to shower first? The pool is chemical-free and filtered entirely by plants. Sun creams, lotions, and sweat damage the biological ecosystem
Are dogs allowed near the pool? No dogs. Pet flea, tick, and worming treatments contain powerful pesticides that are toxic to the pool’s aquatic life and filtration plants.
Private Spas & Site Facilities
What private wellness features does my unit have?
The Cabins: Private outdoor sauna and Japanese soak tub.
The Barn: Private indoor sauna, outdoor Japanese soak tub and outdoor cold shower.
The Cottages: Private wellness courtyard with infrared sauna and outdoor shower.
Can I use essential oils in the saunas? No. Adding essential oils or fragrances to the sauna heaters damages the equipment and causes respiratory irritation.
Is firewood provided? Yes. We provide a generous complimentary basket of kiln-dried logs and kindling for your wood-burning stove or firepit. Extra wood can be purchased on-site.
Are candles or fireworks allowed? No candles, tea lights, fireworks, sparklers, or Chinese lanterns anywhere on site due to the high fire risk to our wooden structures. Battery-operated tea lights are provided.
Logistics, Parking & EV Charging
Where do I park? All guests park in our secure Main Car Park. Cottage guests each have a small parking bay direct outside but larger parking spaces with access to EV charging are on the main carpark.
Do you have EV chargers? Yes. We have three untethered electric vehicle charging points available for a single flat stay fee of £20, payable via cash or your digital guest book link.
Is there a secure place for bicycles? Yes. We have a heavy-duty, lockable estate bike shed for your cycling gear.
What is your noise policy? To protect the peace and local wildlife, please do not have outdoor music/radios (please use headphones). Quiet hours after 10:30 PM.
